While a vast majority of Americans have openly expressed discontent towards Donald Trump’s “zero tolerance immigration policy”, many celebrities are finding it distressing as well, an example being famous singer Selena Gomez.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Selena, 25, said that, “It’s extremely disheartening”, referring to the vast majority of immigrant families that have had to undergo separations due to the new policy.
Selena, who is by nationality a Mexican American, made the statement during the premiere of Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. She furthermore stated that she was deeply affected when seeing children ripped away from the hands of their parents.
She stated that, “There’s a lot of confusion and anger. … It’s definitely been affecting so many people who are close to me.”
While she could not voice out all of her views live, she took to social media platforms, in particular, twitter to express her discontent. She made the following tweet to spread her message on a wider level:
“Families seeking safety in our country need protection, understanding and opportunity, not detention. This is a moral choice, not a political one.”
Selena has joined forces with many other celebrities in voicing opposition to trumps anti immigration policy, some of whom include John Legend and Chrissy Tiegen.
While the message of acceptance and love is the one people live by, will the US government also do the same? The question remains.
